A Fresh Approach To Teaching & Learning Mathematics

  • Where to start with a problem solving classroom
  • Teachers as Learners – sharing the excitement through joining your pupils in discovering new aspects to familiar topics!
  • Hands-on Mathematics – exploring practical problems and making the step towards general principles
  • Allowing topics to be open-ended - give your pupils the freedom to explore through “low threshold, high ceiling” activities.

Common Topics and Key Skills for Strong Mathematicians

  • Developing Curiosity and Excitement
  • Optimus Primes – they’re everywhere! Learning how primes form the building blocks of number and exploiting their uses in problem solving.
  • Algeb-rithmetic – linking topics and skills. Often pupils progress from number work to algebra but less often make the step back to see how algebraic techniques can be powerful tools for numerical calculations.
  • Combinatorics – a topic for the entire school age spectrum. Looking at problems involving ordering and probability.
